Bars In Tel Aviv New Comers Should Check Out

Updated on February 4, 2013

I am a new comer to Tel Aviv, Isreal myself and have been exploring some of the bars/pubs in the surrounding area of where I live. These might not be everybody's top choices, but for my friends and I, we tend to have a great time whenever we go out to these places!

King George Resto Bar

King George Resto Bar is located on King George Street in Tel Aviv. It's a place where you can eat a lot of food for an inexpensive price. There is also a bar inside, which is very low key compared to where most people go out in Tel Aviv. However, my friends and I have become friends with the bartenders and we have a good time eating and drinking here. Everyone is so nice and a major plus is that it's very close to where we both live! We sometimes go to just eat and sometimes to drink. Its definitely a great place to go out to if you are in a "low key night" kind of mood.

Barca Florentine

Barca is located in Florentine on Vital street. This bar is always playing sports games and is a fun atmosphere to be around. Here, my friends and I have also befriended a couple of the bartenders. This bar is located on a fun street that gets busy at night. There's a bunch of other bars on the same street and the surrounding streets as well. The whole area is an exciting place to be at night.

Zina

Zina is located on the famous (and main) street in Tel Aviv, Dizengoff street. Its a nice place to go sit at a table with friends and get a pitcher of beer or a glass of wine. You can also go here and end up meeting a bunch of new and interesting people. I've gone both with a group of friends (and had a great time!) and with just one other friend (where we ended up meeting a group of other awesome people!). If you are near by, you should DEFINITELY check this place out! I actually had a very funny experience here. I went once with a good friend and we both asked for a chaser (what people in Israel call a shot) of Arak, the bartender took one with us, but after we took the chaser, my friend and I both just looked at each other knowing what was on the other's mind, "that definitely didn't taste like arak." We then found out that the bartender accidentally gave us a shot of sugar syrup. He was very apologetic and the rest of the night we got a bunch of free chasers (which was great!). Everyone who works here is very nice, which makes the experience really good too!

Par Derriere

Par Derriere is located on King George Street. This bar is a small wine bar that is located in a hidden outdoor garden. There is jazz, lounge and bossa nova music playing, which makes this a great place for a relaxed, easy going evening. The kitchen serves cheese and meat plates, as well as tapas. All of Par Derriere's products are fresh from the Carmel market right next door. The wines are changing often and are from all over the world, not just Israel. This bar has a lovely ambiance to it and is a really nice place to go on a nice evening.

Tepale

Tepale is located on King George Street. Its a bar, but also serves classic middle eastern food. They have both indoor and outdoor seating (the outdoor is lovely when its a good night out!). This is the typical Tel Aviv/Israeli bar that has a very chill atmosphere and always playing some good music. Here, there is a chance that you can rub shoulders with a local actor! There was also one time when I was here with a friend and we were sitting at the bar and a local actor started talking to us! What a great experience!

English Pub

The English Pub is located on Allenby Street. It's not my top choice of bars to go to, but if you are looking to have a sloppy sort of night, this is definitely the place to go. The good thing about this place is that everyone speaks English and menus are all in English. They have the beer, the music and they also have a couple of pool tables, which is always fun to play! It is located among a bunch of other bars just like it on Allenby.

Dizzy Frishdon

Dizzy Frishdon's name is made up from three different streets: Dizengoff street, Frishman street and Gordon Street, however it is located on Dizengoff street. It is a nice bar and anyone can get in. It's never an over packed place, but you do have to be ready to wait your turn so mingling outside is always a fun way to meet new people. It has a somewhat dark atmosphere, but has good food and beer and great wine! You are definitely sure to meet some new people if you go to this place.

Ha'maoz

Hamaoz is located on King George street as well. Its a fun and cozy bar. The entrance to the bar looks like any normal entrance, with people standing and sitting outside, gathering for a drink. But once you go through into the back of the place, it reminds you of being inside a house. Its like you are in the living room and there's a TV and pool table, among many other things. One corner represents a small kitchen. This bar has a very homey feel to it. If you go, I HIGHLY recommend trying their sangria; it is absolutely delicious (my favorite is the white one)!

Barbara Fry

Barbara Fry is located on the corner of Dizengoff Street and Frishman Street. There are high tables, some sofas as well to lounge around on and the bar is very friendly. There is an inside and an outside part to this place. There is a HUGE variety of drinks on the menu, as well as food choices. The TVs in the bar show sports games, however the noise is kept on silent so that music can be played at all times (in case you aren't into the game). Another plus about this place is that there is always a deal on pitchers and chasers. This is a bar that should definitely be checked out!

Rothschild 12

Rothschild 12 is, of course, located on Rothschild Boulevard. This is a cafe-bar with a somewhat rundown appearance. It looks like a cafe on the outside, but once you go in there is a whole back area that is hidden and very fun! This place hosts DJs and live performances by musicians almost all the time. If you are looking for a really fun place to go with guaranteed good music, this is definitely the spot to go to!

I know these are just a small few of the tons and tons of bars in Tel Aviv. Which ones are your favorites? Any of the ones I've listed above or any new ones? Let me know! I'd love to try some new places!
